It has been a little bit since I last blogged probably because I have been so busy...just kidding. I lead quite the boring life so I thought it wouldn't be much fun for people to read about how I got to work, come home, eat, nap and run and essentially repeat. (The life of a runner right?)
Buuuuut this weekend I got to take the exciting trip to Duluth, Minnesota and be in a really fast road mile. Unfortunately (fortunately? maybe) this weekend is my 1 year anniversary with my supportive girlfriend, Lindsay, so it was quite the bummer to leave her behind. We did get to celebrate on Friday with a nice dinner though and Saturday morning before the trek to Minnesota began. It was quite the trek though getting to Minnesota. I flew out of Lansing to Detroit, Detroit to Minneapolis and lastly Minneapolis to Duluth. Thank goodness my return flight requires a lot less stops but the tradeoff is that I have to wake up at 5 in the morning. Going to be a long day tomorrow to say the least but luckily I am becoming the king of napping.
Upon arriving in Duluth I did a little 5 mile shakeout with Jack Bolas and we got a bite to eat at a very very authentic Irish restaurant. Even the servers were straight from Ireland, or very good at faking an accent. What do I order at an authentic Irish restaurant? You guessed it, a chicken salad. Wait what? Yeah I was that guy ordering water and a salad instead of a nice dark beer and some corned beef hash. Jack redeemed the table though with his order. I have started a new diet because I started to feel awful a few weeks ago and I think it has really helped. It is a raw food diet, where you essentially eat foods in their most raw state, so a lot of fruits/vegetables, nuts, beans etc etc. No meat or fish but I still do eat tuna and salmon because there is a lot of benefit to them I believe. Don't worry people think I am crazy for doing it and for the first few days I thought I was too but after a week of being on it, runs started to go well and I haven't felt this good in awhile. I believe at this level of running the small things are going to begin adding up and diet is one of those.

Nice view outside my hotel window. |
I ended up getting 10th place overall in a 4:02 which I'm not too upset about seeing as I haven't really done a track workout or any speed work in the past 3 weeks or so. Also, after a long year of racing and training I will finally get to take a week off from running which is much needed. I am hoping by next week I will have figured out what training group I will be joining, be it Indiana Elite, Michigan Elite or the American Distance Project out in Colorado.
This year has been my best and most productive year to date and I have to chalk that up to consistent training. I have ran a PR in the 800 (1:50.52), 1500 (3:42.25) and mile (4:00.08 road and 4:00.46 track) so I can't complain too much. I'm excited for the future and what it holds and I think whichever group I join they will be able to get me to the next level.
Still looking for sponsorship so if anyone has any ideas or leads let me know! I'm willing to be sponsored by anyone.
